Defendant Stacey Conklin at a preliminary hearing with her attorney Peter Rotter, July 28 2010
WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) – A Judge has denied bond modification for a woman accused of making a 10 year old girl watch her and her boyfriend have sex.
Stacey Conklin is currently being held on $15,000 cash bond in the case. Defense attorney Peter Rotter asked Judge Falstad to reduce that bond to $1500 cash with the rest as a signature bond. He explained that Conklin's family has no way to pay for a 15-thousand dollar bond, and that it's an excessive amount. He also said that Conklin is scheduled to have a pair of surgeries done and needs to be out of jail for those to take place.
Prosecutor Laura Kohl argued that the case against Conklin is very strong, and that a forensic interview of the victim is evidence enough that she's a danger to the community.
Judge Falstad agreed, and denied the bond modification.
Rotter waived time limits for the rest of a preliminary hearing so that he'll have a chance to review that video. Conklin will be back August 12 to continue that hearing. She faces 41 years on the charges.
